Welcome to the Virtual public meeting (AUGUST 2022)

This webpage was designed to provide a virtual overview of information presented at the Public Meeting on August 10, 2022.

The in-person meeting was scheduled for 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm at the Superior Public Library, 1530 Tower Ave., Superior, WI 54880. The event was an Open House format and the public was invited to stop in as their time allowed.

Residents and stakeholders from the community were encouraged to attend this meeting (in person or virtually) to provide input in the planning process.

WHAT WE HEARD FROM PUBLIC feedback IN jANUARY 2022

Based on the public engagement (online survey and open house) held in January 2022, this is what we heard from the public:

  • The highest priorities for improvements to Hammond Avenue are:

  • Improved Pedestrian Crossings (88% of respondents prioritized them)

  • Sidewalks (85% of respondents prioritized them)

  • Stormwater Improvements (80% of respondents prioritized them)

  • Boulevard Trees

  • A roadway design with center medians was favored by 51% of the respondents.

  • On-Street Parking was identified by 62% of respondents as being important.

INCORPORATION OF PUBLIC FEEDBACK INTO ROADWAY DESIGN

We have incorporated this public feedback into the design of the roadway reconstruction, with the typical street section having:

  • a center median

  • on-street parking on both sides

  • sidewalk

  • off-street trail

  • improved pedestrian crossings, and

  • preserving boulevard trees where possible.

PROPOSED ROADWAY DESIGN ALIGNING WITH PROJECT OBJECTIVES

The proposed roadway design achieves the project’s primary objectives of:

  • Reconstructing Hammond Avenue with new pavement, curb, and gutter

  • Creating a liveable corridor with placemaking and multimodal transportation treatments (automobile, bicycle, and pedestrian) and ADA compliant ramps

  • Mitigating storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and water utility conflicts before they become an issue, and

  • Improving drainage and storm sewer.

SEEKING PUBLIC FEEDBACK AT THE AUGUST 2022 OPEN HOUSE

At the August 10th Open House, the City was seeking public input on the overall layout of the streetscape design, including medians, parking, pedestrian crossings, sidewalks, and trail. Participants were asked to review the proposed roadway design and project layout plans (linked below), and to provide feedback through in person methods or an online survey.

STATION 1: TYPICAL DESIGN STANDARD

The project’s typical roadway design is illustrated in the documents below.

STATION 3: PROJECT SURVEY #2

Participants (both in person and virtual) were asked to complete a short survey to share feedback about the overall typical design standard and roadway layout. Public comments were accepted through August 31, 2022.
